Listening to the season of your body
We’re conditioned to think summer means we have to push harder.
Long days, full calendars, more, more, more. But our bodies don’t always agree with the season we’re in.
Just this week, I got on my yoga mat for my perfectly imperfect practice: no matching yoga wear, PJ shorts and a top from the pile of "not ready for the wash" clothes in the corner of the bedroom, greasy hair & a slow start with breakfast in the garden.
And it was exactly what my body needed that day!
I think it's becoming more acceptable not to be what’s expected of us. To not perform and have it “together” all the time.
To let a day just be what it is.
And I won’t pretend that’s easy. That hustle mentality doesn’t just switch off.
It’s always there, quietly telling you to get up, get dressed, get going, be productive.
Not pushing against it takes real effort. It’s hard work to actually pause & check in, and actually listen to what you need instead of what you think you should be doing.
I’m learning to lean into that more, listening to the wisdom of my body rather than the pressure of the calendar.
If my body wants to move slowly, we move slowly. If it’s not in push mode, we don’t push. Today it looked like sitting outside with breakfast and a little movement and calling that enough.
Our bodies have their own seasons, and they don’t always match the one on the calendar. The more I listen, the more I trust that. Maybe it's an age thing?!
If slowing down is what you need right now, I’ve got two spaces held for exactly that this August.
Women’s Circle — Friday 28th August, Place Eight, Swanbourne - 7-9pm
A beautiful studio space for women to come together for connection, community, and a little movement. You don’t need anything fancy, just show up in comfy clothing you can move in. We’ll gather for some gentle movement, conversation, whatever wants to be present that day, and a little rest. Nothing to perform, nothing to get right.
Or how about .......
Meditation, Cold Water & Contrast Therapy — Friday 14th August, 7–9pm, Suku Sauna
If you’re after something a little more invigorating, this is a beautiful evening of connection as the sun goes down. We’ll settle the mind with meditation, swim in a private lake, then warm back up with sauna and contrast therapy. You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, reconnected, and full in your soul!
P.S The sunsets at Suku are amazing!!
I know it can be really hard to carve out time for the things you want to do, let alone a bit of self-care, when the kids are off for summer. But we all need some space and time that’s just ours. Or maybe it’s simpler than that, maybe it’s just coming to yoga class on a Tuesday evening for a bit of breathwork, meditation, movement, and a lay down at the end, which is what we’re all really there for anyway.
Don’t forget to plan in some time for you this summer.
And if you’re in a season of trying to figure some things out..... rest, boundaries, or just what your body’s actually asking for, sometimes it helps to talk it through with someone. I’m currently taking on a few case studies as part of my own learning this year, so if 1:1 coaching sounds like what you need right now, get in touch.
Have a great weekend.
